Self-care for Mental Wellbeing

Your mental health is the most important thing, and it needs to become your number one priority to look after yourself. Sometimes we need to stop and make ourselves the first and not the last priority because that how we run out of steam; we all need some self-care.

Here are some ways you can make yourself a priority in the day…

Get yourself into regular workout routine, 3-4 times a week for 30 minutes. Not only does it give you that time to yourself, but it also allows you to relax and de stress. Also, when we workout it releases endorphins, and these trigger a positive feeling in the body.

Keep a journal. This does not have to be in great detail but it’s a place to write down what’s in your head when you don’t want to talk to others about it (or to put it in order so you can talk to others!).

Ensure that you are getting enough sleep. Sleep is needed for the body and mind to recharge.

Get outside into the sunlight. This could be to meet some friends or even just a walk Sunlight is a great source of vitamin D. Vitamin D is a really important vitamin for our bodies and our brains

Avoid drinking alcohol and smoking, and ensure that you are eating well. This isn't just important for our bodies, but it's also important for our minds. Certain mineral deficiencies, such as iron and vitamin B12 deficiencies, can give us a low mood.

Stress is often unavoidable, but knowing what triggers your stress and knowing how to cope is key in maintaining good mental health
