Stop trying so hard…

(without giving up!)

When we feel like we’ve put a lot of effort into something, our expectation of the result tends to escalate. This applies to our fitness and weight loss efforts, and to our lockdown efforts. Repeatedly we were told that if we just stayed home, we would then be allowed out again, so then, when the day finally came, our expectations were pretty high. We’d worked hard for this day of freedom!

Now we’re back to work, back to school and, if we’ve been doing those things all along, then suddenly others have joined us. We have a lot of adjustments to make. We have loose ends to pick up, lives to resume and friendships to reconnect. Our brains are super confused right now (you feel me right?)! We’ve just lived through a global crisis, so much has changed, yet everything looks the same on the outside.

I’ve noticed everyone pushing hard to lose their “lockdown weight” (I hate this phrase sooooo much!), or get back into their routine/ back to normal, and it’s causing a lot of stress! Your brain and body is working hard to catch up, so today's message is, give it time.

Don’t misunderstand me though, this is not to say you can throw caution to the wind and give up entirely!

Keep doing what you are doing, do what you can with what you have, because workouts and glasses of water make you FEEL GOOD. Don’t be disappointed with the results, the number on the scale. Be in it for the long game and stop trying so hard.
