13 Years Working on My Goal
Still Going And Still Learning!
Coach Sall
This morning, while I was going through my morning routine, I had a bit of a lightbulb moment.
I love it when that happens.
All of a sudden something falls into place in your brain, and you see everything totally (or even just slightly) differently.
It was in relation to a book I first read 13 years ago. I’ve been studying this book ever since. You know, on and off, because adopting everything this book said in one go would have been nearly impossible it was so far from where I was at the time.
But I needed the things in the book. And I needed to master them to achieve my goals.
So here I am, 13 years later, one tiny step closer to my goals as another block that I had drops away.
So, why am I telling you this?
The message here is that often we know what the answer is, we know what we need to do, we’re just not in the right place for it to be that easy.
You can try taking other people’s advice and reading books from experts, but unless you are in prime position to put that into action all you will see is obstacles, all you will find is difficulty and you might only experience failure.
When we become too attached to the results (the greens, the scale, the dress size) – we forget to embrace the process and to persist DESPITE the difficulties and the imperfections.
When we are attached to the outcome, we hyper-focus on our flaws (part 2 opportunity; we hyperfocus on our flaws rather than the opportunities to make progress. We blame ourselves (diet culture). Taking time to let change establish itself i.e. new actions to become habits. Learning things that help us to be able to take the next step and not get stuck, doing what we can with what we have. Do what’s right in front of you – link to DE7 article) and not getting the results we expected feels like failing.
Or we don’t even try.
Once you decide on your goal, commit to it and let it go. Work on the process that’s going to get you there. Step by step, year on year if necessary.
Who knows what you could achieve.
