Thinking yourself into action

Coach Sall

I nearly didn’t get this email done today, and by nearly, I mean I felt overwhelmed by it, and by overwhelmed, I mean I didn’t have an idea, a place to start or any inspiration.

I had some important and urgent things that needed my attention and I felt that I wouldn’t be able to think myself into it.

Think myself into it? Is that a real thing?

Yes, indeed it is. Especially for the hard stuff, and by hard, I just mean anything we feel resistant to, it doesn’t necessarily have to BE hard, just FEEL hard.

Then you need to think yourself into it.

I could list all sorts of things I do every day that I must think myself into. Things I would just rather not do…right now. Especially when something else is tugging at my brain or my emotions.

Any kind of emergency can stop me in my tracks, and by emergency, I mean something unexpected and so it FEELS urgent, but might not BE urgent.

Those things, they’re distractions, and they block your thinking. They stop you doing the things you know you need to do for your future self.

It doesn’t take long to form a habit of reacting to everything that comes up on your radar and lose the habit of thinking yourself into the “hard” things.

Remember, you can think yourself into doing anything you choose; decluttering, workouts, daily walks, workouts, drawing up that budget, workouts.

The more you practice, the less you will notice having to do it, and the “hard” stuff gets easier.

So next time you’re struggling to focus on the thing you want/need/should be doing, take a moment to think about the action, and why you’re doing it, take a deep breath, and just dive in.

You’ll be glad you did.
