Do What You Can with What You Have
Coach Sall
On this day, 3 years ago we reopened our doors after pretty much 1 year of forced closure, and while I would like to write a very lengthy email, thanking every single one of the 83 of you that stuck by us throughout that time, thanking Coach Dannii and Coach Tash for believing and holding on tight, and thanking all of you who stayed as long as you could and returned as soon as possible, what I want to share is the BIG lesson from that time that relates to YOUR health, fitness or weight loss journey.
When we were forced to close, I made plans for our “breakout” party, ready for when we could reopen. I imagined how amazing it would be and how we would celebrate, not just in my head, these plans were real, on paper, ready!
And of course, the reality wasn’t like that.
Just like a health, fitness or weight loss journey.
Anything that takes time, and involves lots of change, happens slowly.
It’s also tough. There are setbacks, there are limitations on time, money, emotional bandwidth, there are gaps in knowledge and unexpected events.
When we reopened, we were only allowed 1 member in to workout at a time. Can you imagine that?
We had no money, hardly any team and no idea what the future held.
But we did it, with our very powerful community held together with an infallible commitment to each other.
I wrote on the notice board something like “We are doing what we can with what we have” and it stayed there quite a while.
You see, we can all dream about the BIG outcome. In fact, we must have those dreams.
What we must realise though is the reality of our lives, our current situation, our starting point and everything that has gone before, or might happen yet.
You can only do what you can with what you have.
The biggest lesson I learned from that time is that you MUST do what you can with what you have.
That is where your progress (and ultimately your success) lies.
So, don’t beat yourself up about what you’re not doing or can’t do.
Never, ever think that what you are doing isn’t enough. Our Curves Ilkeston community today is proof that doing what you can with what you have is indeed enough.
I see you all, speak to you, get emails from you. I know what’s happening.
Today’s message is keep doing what you can with what you have, because then, when you can do more, you will.
