Self care promotes health and prevents disease
Self-care means taking care of yourself so that you can be healthy, well and you can do all the things you need to and want to accomplish in a day. It doesn’t mean being selfish or indulgent, it's some dedicated time to look after number you!
But why is it important? Self-care reduces anxiety and depression, reduces stress, improves happiness, increases energy and reduces burnout. According to the World Health Organisation, self-care is important because it can help promote health, prevent disease, and help people better cope with illness.
What does self-care look like? Self-care can be anything from making sure you get a good night's sleep to stepping outside for 5 minutes to get some fresh air. Make sure you take that time out in your day to take a breather and get some essential me time in.
Self-care looks different for everyone, but whatever self-care you do the behaviour should promote health and happiness for you and help you to feel amazing.
To get into a routine of regularly practicing self-care, start your routine off small rather than tackling something huge first. Choose one practice each week to weave into your daily routine, just 5 minutes! And take note of how good you're feeling afterwards and any positive changes!
